On Market Street by Arnold Lobel

Setting: Market Street
Characters: Boy, Cat
Theme:Alphabet, Companionship

In this story a boy goes to Market Street and buys a whole lot of stuff. The items he buys go in alphabetical order, and he buys huge amounts of each thing and gets covered in these items. It almost looks like he's wearing outfits made out of a bunch of each item. He buys apples, books, clocks, donuts, eggs, flowers, gloves, hats, and so on until zippers. After he's done shopping, Market Street closes. It turns out he bought all of the items for his friend who is a cat.
